On this guided tour of Tortosa we will discover the old town of the capital of Bajo Ebro and one of the most beautiful cities in the province of Tarragona.
Itinerary
We will begin this guided tour of Tortosa by meeting at 11:00 a.m. on Carrer Francesc Gimeno. After contemplating the giant model of Tortosa Cathedral and its river façade, we will head towards the old town of the city through Plaça del Paiolet.
In the historic center of Tortosa we will see the exterior of such emblematic monuments as the House of the General Council or the Oliver de Boteller Palace. The latter, in civil Gothic style, belonged to one of the most influential noble families in Tortosa in the 16th century.
The tour will continue alongside other historical places such as the Episcopal Palace, the Romeu portal or the Royal Colleges. We will also contemplate from the lower part of the city the silhouette of the Suda Castle, currently converted into a National Tourism Parador.
As a final touch, we will approach the basilica-cathedral of Santa María de Tortosa. If it is open, we will visit the interior of this Gothic and Baroque style jewel and tour its central nave, where we will see the famous altarpiece consecrated to the Mare de Déu de l’Estrella. In addition, we will admire the works of sacred art in the Chapel of the Virgen de la Cinta and the permanent exhibition of the Episcopal Museum.
The guided tour will conclude around 2:00 p.m. at the exit of Tortosa Cathedral.
